Visa requirements

Do you need a visa?

If you are not a British or Irish citizen, you may need a visa to study in the UK.

EEA and Swiss nationals

If you have Settled or pre-Settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme, this gives you permission to live, work and study in the UK, and you won't need a visa to study with us.

If you don't have Settled or pre-Settled status, you will need to have valid immigration permission that allows you to study in the UK.

You cannot usually study one of these programmes on a Visitor Visa.

If you have a Skilled Worker (formerly Tier 2) visa, then you will need your employer's consent to study with us full-time.

You may use a Visitor Visa to study these programmes

Visas for full-time programmes

If you’re coming to the UK to study on a full-time programme, in most situations you will need a Student visa.

We will give you plenty of information and guidance on how to apply for your visa once you've been accepted on to the programme, but here are the key facts.

Please review the Statement of Service to familiarise yourself with the services and advice provided by the Visas & Financial Aid Team.

Once you have been accepted at LBS and have paid your reservation and commitment fee, we will provide you with a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) to support your visa application.

You must have sufficient funding to cover your first-year tuition fees and living expenses, and you must be able to prove this in a way that meets the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requirements. Full guidance is available on gov.uk

You will need to pay the Immigration Healthcare Surcharge (IHS) as part of your visa application. This is currently £776 for each year that you will be in the UK. This gives you full access to National Health Service (NHS) healthcare during your period of study.
If you are applying from outside of the UK, you will apply for your visa online and will then need to visit a Visa Application Centre to submit your documents and your biometric details.

If you are already in the UK, you need to ensure that you meet the requirements to be able to make your application from within the UK. For more information, please refer to the official guidance on gov.uk. If you don't meet these criteria, then you may need to apply from outside of the UK.

You can only study in the UK on a Visitor visa if:

You intend to live outside of the UK for the duration of your studies

You will only come to the UK to attend classes and block weeks, and will leave again shortly afterwards

You will spend the majority of your time outside of the UK.

You cannot use a Visitor Visa to study on our Masters in Finance (part-time) programme due to the structure of the course.

Please note depending on your nationality, you will need to apply for either a Standard Visitor Visa or an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before you travel to the UK.
The application process is the same as for a full-time programme; please refer to the information provided above.

On a part-time Student Visa, you are not permitted to work in the UK, but you will be eligible for Graduate visa.

You cannot use a part-time student visa to study any of our EMBA programmes due to the structure of the course.

Visas for part-time programmes

If you’re coming to study on a part-time programme and don’t already hold permission to live and study in the UK, there are two main options for you:

Student visa (part-time)
Visit visa

The best option for you will depend on the programme you are studying, where you will be living during your studies, and how long you intend to stay in the UK.

Working after your studies

There are great options for our students who want to work in the UK following their studies. These include:

Graduate visa
Skilled Worker visa

We will guide and support you each step of the way.

The Graduate visa allows students to apply to stay in the UK for two years following successful completion of your studies at London Business School.

During this time, you can work full-time and will not need an employer to sponsor you. You can also be self-employed or start your own business.

To be eligible for the Graduate visa, you will need to have studied in the UK on a Student visa. Students with other kinds of visa will not be eligible.

Please note that students on our EMBA-Global and Executive MBA Dubai programmes are not eligible for a Graduate visa because the majority of the programme is not spent in the UK. Students on the Global Masters in Management (GMiM) programme are also not eligible for this, as you need to undertake the second year of your studies in Fudan.
The Skilled Worker visa has replaced the former Tier 2 visa route. It allows you to work in the UK for an approved employer who will be your sponsor.

To qualify for the Skilled Worker visa, you need:

A job offer from an approved employer

To meet minimum salary and skill requirements.
